90 minutes of fun ..

on land cruising through the Art Deco district..

then 'driving' into Biscayne Bay and bobbling 

along with the boats of the bay and a close up view

of the celebrity houses along Star Island...

the tour guide has a lot of amusing 

'duck tales ' to share...

quacking at people on the street is not an option...

This year  a lot of stores opened late Thanksgiving Day..

maybe that will curtail some of the mad rush to be the first

in the door  at 6 am ....

Bob and I have our annual shopping / lunch excursion on 

Black Friday... but we wait til noon to get started...

most of the rude shoppers have come and gone by that time...

oh yes.. the stores look like locust have hit... 

no problem.. we do most of our holiday shopping on line... 

Enjoy the weekend and avoid the madness ...

Museum of Art & History at the Custom House

In 2011 Gainesville hosted  the

'Crossing Paths' sculpture series

by Seward Johnson...

  time for fun

was one of the pieces on display...

the Gainesville version was life size..
the display in Key West stands over 20 feet tall..

Johnson is a part-time Key West resident

and his work has been on display at the museum 

since 2005...

Opened in  1938 ..

a poor man's fishing retreat ..

the original property consisted of 

the bar and a small hotel  ...

In 1947, Warner Brothers used the bar as inspiration

 when writing the screenplay for the Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall film,

 Key Largo. It also served as a filming location for exterior shots in the film.

( six - toed ) and are descendents of 

Hemingway's six - toed cat Snowball 

the cats have the run of the house and property..

they are protected and cared for under provisions

of Hemingway's will.

Hurricane Memorial .........Islamorada Florida

 Florida Keys Memorial

( known locally as the Hurricane Memorial )

dedicated in 1937

 built to honor the hundreds of  World War I Veterans

and local citizens who perished in the 

Labor Day 1935 Hurricane.

the 22 foot tiled ceramic crypt in front of the monument 

depicts the Florida Keys with Matecumbe in the center..

site of the greatest destruction.

the crypt contains the cremated remains of 300  

victims of the storm
