The Cherokee Bear Project started in 2005
as a series of life-like fiberglass bears
painted by Eastern Band Cherokee artists.
Each bear depicts a different aspect of
the Cherokee's unique heritage.
The artwork is definitely not on the scale
with the Horse or Gator series ...
but the primitive paintings seem more in keeping
with the history of the bear .
