Monday ...

The appearance of drive in movie theaters
reached a peak in Florida during the 1950's.
Almost 160 scattered throughout the state.
Over 5000 nationwide.

Color televisions, VCRs, and a somewhat shady
reputation led to a rapid decline in the number
of 'outdoor' theaters.

Today there are less than 500 nationally.
Less than 10 still functioning in Florida.

Some of the old drive ins also serve
as Flea Markets as an alternative
source of income.
