Located in the heart of downtown Gainesville.the Hippodrome State Theatre.
The Hipp started out as the Old Federal Building
Constructed in 1909 it housed the Post Office on
the first floor. A courtroom on the second floor
and office space on the third level.
The second floor is now a 266 seat mainstage.
1981 the inaugural year opened with
the play The Elephant Man.
The first floor is now an 80 seat cinema.
A little Film Noir please.. not the standard
blockbuster at the big movie theaters.
From the bench you can get a relaxed view of
the morning rush into the Starbucks on the
corner.. or Maude's coffeeshop next door.
